activities during the year.

New Years
Eve 2007 - 2008
2008 Arrives
With Sirens, Whistles and Cheers … Together With Our MYC Family HAPPY
NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!
What a great time we had at our annual MYC New Year’s Eve bash. We had a
nice turn out with 8 boats (JJ,
YEAH!, MoNauti, Enn-Ticipation,
Double D, Jibless and Bruce Fabert and Sharon Brodniak’s new boat) and 2
motor homes … Dave and Laurie Green in one and DuWayne and Colleen
Crowley in the other. We had absolutely beautiful weather, great food
and lots of holiday cheer.
No one went swimming this year, which was a great relief. However, Don
Dauenhauer, had a little mishap but recovered quickly and was able to
continue on with the party. Along with many MYC members in attendance we
also had the privilege of the company of extended family and friends.
Sisters, daughters, grandchildren and neighbors were there. It seems
MYC’s NYE celebration is the hottest ticket in town! After ringing
in the New Year and getting what seemed like an hour of sleep we were
off to Meyer’s Café for a hot breakfast, good coffee, and even better
company.
Thank you, Jolly, for the beautiful scarves. A handmade gift from the
heart just can’t be beat. The time and effort you put into each of them
is greatly appreciated. We are expecting 1 – 4 FEET of snow this weekend
in Denver, so mine will come in real handy!
I’d also like to thank my Dad, Tim Riddle, my husband Randy, Dave Green,
and everyone else that worked so hard setting up and tearing down.
That is a huge job and we couldn’t have done it without your support.
On a personal note, I’d like to thank those of you who shared stories of
my dear Mom, Jan Riddle. She LOVED being a part of the MYC family and
treasured each one of you. She spoke of you often and it brings me
comfort to know the joy that you brought into her life. I know she was
smiling down on us as we reminisced of the good times. She will be
missed but will live on in our hearts.
As we reflect on 2007 and look towards 2008 may we smile a little more,
give someone special a hug, say I love you more often, be charitable and
just enjoy life. Remember what’s important and be thankful for all that
we’ve got.
Happy New Year, my Friends.

Island Cruise - March 7 - 9
I will not be held
responsible by any disappointed members who failed to attend this
wonderful cruise! As I predicted the weather was fantastic.
Duane and Colleen Crowley blazed the trail and secured the dock at
Fossil Bay on Thursday evening. On Friday Don Dauenhauer and Marty Eidbo
arrived at about 1:00 followed by Sean and Jennifer Robinson and their
friends Greg and Dena who pulled in around 6:00. On Saturday Kipp and
Babe Carroll arrived on one engine with Lynne Dauenhauer, Wendy Eidbo,
and Roy and Mo Dorsey as crew, followed a short time later by Ted and
Mandy Udhus.
We all agreed that it was good to be out on the water again after such a
long cold winter. The fair weather made for great crossings in both
directions. We were all able to get dock space which made it easy to
explore the island. As you can see there was just enough room for all of
us and tables were stationed in all the right places.
On Saturday we had a treasure hunt and almost everyone found treasure.
Marty took everyone down the trail and gave clues. Some of the ladies
had already scoped out the island and had a good idea where some of it
was. It ended up being a good walk for everyone. Duane C.
even ran for some of the treasure.
As usual the food situation was out of control and we all ate well. Don
D. and Duane C. found the secret spot for oysters which Don barbequed on
Saturday evening until we all had as many as we wanted. We established a
couple of new Fleet Offices this weekend. One of them is Fleet
Electrician, inaugurated by Ted Udhus who in turn re-named the club
“Mukilteo Nyuk Nyuk”. We also have a new “Sparky Award” recipient in
Dwayne Crowley.
Saturday night we all enjoyed a great Bon Fire thanks to Roy Dorsey.
Some of us turned in early and others stayed up very late on the dock
discussing Theology among other things. Sunday morning we all
enjoyed Omelets in a Bag, along with pastries from Lynne Dauenhauer. We
also had a fantastic fashion show of yachting sleepwear from Mandy Udhus
while Ted gave a few of the members a lesson in lock picking.
Thanks to everyone who attended and made this the best in the history of
the Icicle Cruises. It was a special weekend that I’m sure will be
repeated over the coming cruising season.
Marty and Wendy Eidbo

Captain's Cruise - March 28 - 30
How does the saying go?
March, it
comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Well not this time….
For an early spring cruise at the end of March (March 28-30) it is
reasonable to expect clouds, rain, cooler temps and some wind, but
SNOW?! Well, for those who made the trip to Kingston on Friday that’s
what they got. Those that left early in the day also got to contend with
some strong winds, but for those who left later in the day, they got
calm waters with snow on their decks. And as if that didn’t make it
exciting enough, Bruce Fabert and Sharon took on a little water and made
friends with the Coast Guard! Luckily, Dave & Laurie Green and Tim
Riddle sprang into action (literally leaving power cords and lines
attached to the dock) and helped with a temporary fix for a pesky water
hose! It made for some exciting cruising with fun stories to tell when
we all got there.
The excitement of Friday’s journeys put everyone in the mood for good
times with good friends. The cold weather kept everyone indoors, but
that didn’t stop our lively club from socializing. We all hopped from
boat to boat to exchange stories and stay warm.
Saturday morning greeted us with clear, sunny skies and some even colder
temperatures. Those who were willing to brave the chilly morning enjoyed
donuts and coffee on the docks.
In the afternoon we all gathered for drinks and appetizers on the dock
before heading up to the Main Street Ale House for dinner. Our group
included: Marty & Wendy Eidbo, Kipp & Babe Carroll, Roy & Mo Dorsey,
Greg & Diane Smith and granddaughter McKensie, Swan & Donna Seaberg,
Jeff & Bobbie Moustafa, Alex Denton & Mary Wightman, Jim & Barbara Lamb,
Dave & Laurie Green, Tim Riddle, Bruce Fabert & Sharon Brodniak, Ted,
Mandy, Paige & Riley Udhus, Sean, Jennifer, Kaitlyn & Lucas Robinson,
Tom & Bobbi O’Day, Enn & Cindy Mikk, Mike & Connie Reilly, and Rhoda
Sluys. We took over the entire lounge of the Ale House and enjoyed a
wonderful dinner.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the cruise. It was a weekend
filled with good friends and lots of laughter!

Blake Island Cruise - April 11 -
13
“To Blake or Not to Blake”
To Blake or not to Blake, that was the question. Our question was
answered upon hearing from our early arrivers that the marina was jam
packed with little chance of getting all seven boats signed up within
dingy distance.
What a difference a year makes. Last year the forecast kept people away,
but with expected 70 degree weather on Saturday the entire city of
Seattle took off early.
What to do? After a quick meeting among captains, we decided to consult
The Burgee Book (highly recommend and available through The Armchair
Sailor) for an alternate location. After a little discussion on
the dock with Duane and Dave, we settled on Port Orchard. Calls were
made to the other boats scheduled to attend; the Dorseys, Griffings, &
Lambs. The three of us cruised on in and found plenty of room on the
dock. Appetizers appeared shortly thereafter and it was time for
“Attitude Adjustment Hour”.
Did I mention 70 degree weather? Saturday was a most gorgeous day.
Just ask Mo’s friend Patty who joined us for the weekend. Can you say
RED? She wasn’t the only one to get some sun though as a few others
sported rosy cheeks with their dinner. Having never been to Port
Orchard we wandered about the town and discovered a very nice bakery and
a park to let the kids run.
Activities on the dock included Bingo in the afternoon and Marine
Pictionary courtesy of Dave Green which started before sunset and was
finished via flashlight. Special thanks to Duane Crowley for teaching us
all how to draw a tugboat and for the anatomy lesson.
Dinner was meant to be cooked in my crab cooker, but moved inside when I
discovered that my pot would function much better as a strainer. You
can’t say this club is not prepared as two pots appeared and dinner was
cooking in no time. It is amazing how much food comes out of the galleys
of six boats.
Sunday morning we had waffles with strawberries and whip cream for
breakfast aboard Crimson Pride II. Sunday’s return was in overcast
skies, but the water was smooth. This was nice for the Dorseys who
experienced a little engine trouble and ended up being passed by
kayakers (just kidding on the kayakers, but seeing Roy cruise at 8 knots
was shocking). Duane followed him into Everett just in case with tow
rope ready. Go figure.
Many thanks to everyone who made it and to the Moustafas who ‘took one
for the team’ as they arrived Thursday at Blake and secured moorage then
decided that since they already paid for the weekend they would stay.
Sean, Jennifer, Kaitlyn and Lucas Cruise Captains

Can you guess the Pictionary word? It was that Dave really
misspelled the word "berth"
and Duane drew a "birth"!

LaConner - May
30-June 1
Cruising, Shopping, Tic-Tac-Toe ...
Friday afternoon could not have been better cruising. The weather was
warm (kinda) and sunny, the water like glass. We had a good turn out of
eleven boats and a few drive-over's.
LaConner is not only a great little town of character, but it has great
moorage with a nice park area wherewe held our potluck dinner on Friday
evening.
Saturday was spent taking in the unique shopping and browsing. There was
also entertainment dockside for the money challenged and other game
enthusiasts.
In the afternoon we held our first championship water tic-tac-toe event.
Everyone had a good time and an opportunity to play.
The winners of the first annual tic-tactoe championship are:
1st Place: Jack & Jessica
2nd Place: Roy and Mo Dorsey
3rd Place: The Reillys
A special thanks to Alex and Mary for the dinghy and net.
Afterwards we all headed up to the restaurant where the food and staff
were excellent. We had the whole room to ourselves overlooking the
channel.
Sunday morning was a bit chilly and overcast, but nothing a warm sticky
cinnamon roll couldn't cure.

Oak Harbor Cruise - June 20 - 22
Oak Harbor Is A Winner!!!
The cruise to Oak
Harbor (June 20-22) was great fun. Even the weather and winds
cooperated. In the past we’ve gone in April and there are many horror
stories about MYC members trying to get back to Everett.
Because of minus tides, those wanting to leave early didn’t go until the
afternoon. Jibless (Jim and Jolly Higman), About Time (Bruce
Fabert and Sharon Brodniak) and Double D (Don Dauenhauer) left Everett
about 1 PM and cruised north at a leisurely 12 knots. They arrived in
time to welcome the other boats.
By 6 PM The Esmerelda (Juan and Zelah Bonneu), Irish Mist (Rick and
Carol Megenity), Minor Key (Jim Lamb and son Tony), Mo Nauti (Roy and Mo
Dorsey & Lynne Dauenhauer), Mariah (Jim and Pam Karas) and Doug and
Susan Richards (on their boat yet to be named) had arrived.
We all shared appetizers for dinner. Jeff and Bobbie Moustafa on the S/V
Seferina had been anchored out all week and brought clams, muscles and
cockles they had harvested; it was a delicious addition to our
“appetizing” dinner.
Pacific Pearl (Gerry and Bonnie Suminski) and Granada (Bob McBride and
Marlene Hultman) arrived on Saturday. Land cruisers included Rhoda
Sluys who came by Saturday on her way back from Bellingham and Ingrid
and Iain Draper who drove up and joined us for Saturday’s dinner.
The main activity for the weekend was our horse race. Prior to the race,
six horses were auctioned off and named. The owners then selected their
jockey. The roll of the dice determined how quickly the horses completed
the track which was marked out on the dock. All were welcome to place
bets on their favorite. There were five races. The fifth race was the
“Owners’ Race” and the winning owner won the proceeds from the auction
plus an additional $25 from the club. For races one through four, the
winning owner received $24 and the winning jockey received $10. Money
paid out was from the club and proceeds from the betting.
The big winner was Jolly Higman with $68. She was the owner and jockey
of “Mukilteo Flash” which won race #1 and #4.
“Big Brown” owned by Doug Richards won the “Owners’ Race” (#5). Doug was
also the jockey and took home $56.25.
Race #2 was won by “Mukilteo Blue”; owner Pam Karas; jockey Jim Karas.
Race #3 was won by MYC Slew; owner Roy Dorsey; jockey Sharon Brodniak.
The other horses competing were “Flipper”; owner and jockey Gerry
Suminski and “Lucky Dog” owner Juan Bonneu; jockey Bobbie Moustafa.
Saturday’s dinner was a potluck on the dock. We also celebrated Jim
Higman’s 73rd birthday with a delicious carrot cake. Happy
Birthday Jim!! Jim and Jolly’s daughter Kim was there to help celebrate.
The weather on Saturday was great and the winds were calm until about 9
PM. A sudden wind came up with enough force to cause two fishing boats
in the harbor to drag anchor and crash into the guest docks. The S/V
Seferina also drug anchor and left for a calmer harbor.
The wind was still blowing in the morning, but with less force than the
night before. Don and I headed out early and were pleasantly
surprised at how calm it was. Those leaving later also reported an
uneventful, even pleasant trip; some even sailed home!!
For those who could not attend, you missed a great time. I think many
who were there would go to Oak Harbor again (in June, NOT April)…so
we’ll hope to see you next year!!
